Flower-like anemones are stingers with cylindrical bodies attached to the sea bottom. Their mouths, surrounded by tentacles with stinging cells, face upwards.
The anemone's mouth opens into a short throat leading into the body cavity. A continuous current of water through the mouth carries oxygen to the tissues and removes any waste. Many species are colorful, and large ones can be as much as 3 feet (1 m) in diameter. | |
